Samuel Sterett (life dates unknown)

University Affiliation:
  • A.M. (hon.) 1782
  • Secretary of the Trustees 1779-1783
Biographical Summary:

From 1779 to 1783 Samuel Sterrett served as secretary of the board of trustees of the University of the State of Pennsylvania (which became the University of Pennsylvania in 1791).

Little is known of this man. He may have been the Samuel Sterett who was born in 1758 and died in Baltimore, Maryland in 1833, leaving at least one son and three daughters; this David Sterett was a Maryland representative to the U.S. Congress, 1791-1793. It is also possible that the Samuel Sterrett who was secretary of the trustees of the University of the State of Pennsylvania from 1779 to 1783 was the father of the Samuel Sterett born in 1758. Another Sterrett, David Sterrett of Baltimore, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1793.
