Greeting
We, the Provost, Vice-Provost, and Professors of the College and Academy of Philadelphia witness that the well-equipped and talented Man, James Tilton, has diligently spent time among us in the lectures of all of our Professors in Medicine and has zealously accomplished his work, so that he might learn and become expert in Medical Science. After having completed his course of study, he was called to examination in our hall [in the presence of] the Trustees and many other most worthy Citizens. He proved himself well enough versed in his studies that at a public Commencement held on the twenty first Day of June in the Year 1768, [he was admitted] by Order of the Trustees to the degree Bachelor in Medicine and to all the Privileges and Honors pertaining to that degree. In witness of this fact, we, upon the aforementioned Day and Year, subscribe our names upon these Letters stamped with the greater Seal of this College and Academy. John Morgan, M.D., Fellow of the Royal Society, Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine; William Smith, Professor of Sacred Theology, Provost of the College and Academy; William Shippen, Professor of Anatomy; James Davidson, Professor of the Greek and Latin Languages; Francis Alison, Professor of Sacred Theology, Vice-Provost of the College and Rector of the Academy; Adam Kuhn., M.D., Professor of Materia Medica; Paul Fooks, Professor of the French and Spanish Languages; Ebenezer Kinnersley, Professor of Oratory and the English Language I pledge my Faith that the well-equipped Man, James Tilton, has spent time in Clinical Lectures and Practice in the Hospital at Philadelphia and that he has gained most rich fruit in consequence of his diligence. Thomas Bond, Trustee of the College and Academy and Clinical Lecturer
