The removal or rehabilitation of slums was a primary goal of the federal and state legislation authorizing urban redevelopment after World War II. These views, taken from the Build America Better Committee's publication, Conservation-Centered Renewal in the University City Area of West Philadelphia (National Association of Real-Estate Boards, 1960), are typical of the images used to demonstrate the problems requiring legislative remedy.
