Guide to the Use of PDF Files

A number of records at the University Archives are available on-line as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to read, search and print these PDF files.

To locate a term within one of these PDF files:

  • Click on the binoculars in the Acrobat Reader menu (do NOT click on "Find" in the internet browser menu)

  • Enter the term to be searched for (do NOT enclose inside quotation marks) and click on "Find"

  • To find other occurrences of this term in this file , click on the binoculars with the curved arrow

    Note: To search for all University Archives web pages containing a specific term, use the Archives Search Engine.


To print the PDF file:

  • Choose the printer on the Acrobat Reader menu (NOT the print button in your internet browser menu)

  • Make your choices in the window that appears. If the document contains oversized pages, check the "shrink to fit" option to print these pages on 8 1/2 by 11 paper.

  • Click OK
