James Sproat Davidson (1796-1821)

    James Sproat Davidson was born in Philadelphia on July 27, 1796, to William Davidson and Lydia Ashmead. In 1812, he entered the University of Pennsylvania. On October 2 of the following year he was one of thirteen founding members of the Philomathean Society, Penn's first student organization.

    Davidson died while pursuing his degree in theology in Philadelphia on March 5, 1821.
