1750 N. Scull and G. Heap, Philadelphia and Parts Adjacent

Philadelphia and Parts Adjacent
[Surveys by] Nicholas Scull and George Heap, 1749. Published 1750.
From reprint in Scharff and Wescott, History of Philadelphia, 1884.

Skull and Heap's surveys and maps of Philadelphia were reused by printers until the late 18th-century. Occassionally they were slightly updated. This map was intended primarily as guide for the outlying areas, The City of Philadelphia is optimisticly illustrated as going from the Delaware to the Schuylkill River. However, when the map was drawn the City only extended a few blocks past the Court House. The focus of the City was along the Delaware River and would remain so until the 19th-century.
