Villanova's John Pinone

John Pinone played so well for so long, his number 45 jersey now hangs from The Pavilion rafters, retired in a 1995 ceremony.  He was a four-time all-Big Five performer, a three-time Geasey MVP, a three-time all-BIG EAST pick, an Academic All-American, a two-time international representative and a two-time NCAA Tournament all-region pick.  That kind of thing happens when a player scores more than 2,000 career points and grabs more than 1,000 rebounds while his team wins at least 20 games each of four years and advances to the NCAA Tournament in each.  He still stands sixth on Villanova's scoring chart (2,024 points) and eighth in rebounding (837 boards).  Pinone is still the lone freshman to pace the Wildcats in scoring (14.5 a game in 1980).  In 1982 he was a member of the U.S. World Championship Team.
